Montjüic - mountain of jews

Buenos días a todos!

This time I only write a few things, because it´s quite busy here at the moment :-)
In the south-west of Barcelona there is the mountain Montjüic. Its name (mont jüic - mountain of jews) is probably related to the fact that there is/was as graveyard at the eastern side of the mountain.

During the plaque in the end of the 14. century many hundreds of jews where killed, because they where blamed for causing the epidemic. The jews themselves where living isoleted in one part of the city with their own access to wells and drinkable water, so they where not affected by the plaque that much. Therefore it was easy for the locals to accuse them with sorcery and witchcraft and for poisoning their public wells.

The Castell de Montjüic close to the edge of town is a symbol for the ongoing differences and difficulties between Barcelona and Madrid, respectively Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Until 2007 the castle was still Madrilenian property, so a place that did not belong to Barcelona. During the 19th century Barcelona was even bombed by the Spanish military that was deployed at the castle in order to fight down riots against the Spanish government.

The entrance fee to that place is quite cheap (only 3€), but besides some old cannons, the outside of the castle and a lot (I  mean a whole bunch) of seagulls there is not a lot to see. Although the castle offers an amazing view over entire Barcelona and to the Mediteranian sea, which was definitely worth the money.

Inner yard of the castle

An amazing cloudless view over Barcelona from the top the castle

Gazing into the distance...
For the last 2 weeks before I move into my new flat, I found a new roommate whoe shares my urge to go on exploration trips, Manu from Steiermark, a nice area in Austria :-)

Finally a song, that got stuck in my head due to excessive radio exposure

See you next time, ¡hasta pronto!
